Aunt Lori’s Black Bottom Banana Bars

  • ½ c. butter or margarine, softened
  • 1 c. sugar
  • 1 egg
  • 1 tsp. vanilla
  • 1-1/2 c. mashed bananas
  • 1-1/2 c. flour
  • 1 tsp. baking powder
  • 1 tsp. baking soda
  • ½ tsp. salt
  • ¼ c. cocoa powder                                        
  1. Preheat oven to 350 F. Cream the butter and sugar together. 
  2. Add egg and vanilla, beating until well combined. 
  3. Blend in bananas. 
  4. Combine flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.  Add to creamed mixture, mixing well. 
  5. Divide batter in half.  Mix cocoa powder into half of batter.  Spread the chocolate mixture into a greased 9 x 13 pan. 
  6. Spoon remaining batter on top and swirl with a knife.  Bake for 25 minutes. Cool.
