Aunt Phyllis’ Almond Poppy Seed Bread

Dough:

  • 3 cups flour
  • 1 1/2 tsp. salt
  • 1 1/2 tsp. baking powder
  • 2 1/2 cups sugar
  • 1 1/2 cups milk
  • 1 1/8 cups oil
  • 1 1/2 tsp. poppy seeds
  • 3 eggs
  • 1 1/2 tsp. vanilla extract
  • 1 1/2 tsp. almond extract

Almond glaze:

  • 3/4 cups sugar
  • 1/4 cup orange juice
  • 1/2 tsp. vanilla extract
  • 1/2 tsp. almond extract
  • 2 T. butter

OR Lemon glaze

  • 1 C. Confectioner’s sugar
  • 3 T. fresh squeezed lemon juice
  1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
  2. Grease and flour bread pans.
  3. Mix all ingredients until blended.
  4. Pour into prepared pans.
  5. Bake 45 minutes to 1 hour.
  6. While still hot, pour on glaze.
  7. Cool in pans for ½ hour and remove.
