When Grandpa John owned a butcher shop, Grandma learned how to cook inexpensive cuts of meat, so they were very tender. Her dinner staples were pot roast, polish sausage, sweet buttered carrots, and creamy mashed potatoes.

We used to go to Grandma Kate’s and Grandpa Mel’s every Sunday. Grandma would always make us spaghetti and sometimes cooked snails as a special treat. She would put them in a pie tin, and we would pluck the meat from the shells with toothpicks.

Megan used to LOVE vegetable lasagna when she was little.

Grandma Yo made homemade pizza as a treat. Poppy and his siblings helped to make the dough and spread the sauce. They would pull the sausage meat out of the casings and put it on the pizza and then load it with lots of hand-shredded mozzarella cheese.

On Grandpa Yo’s monthly pay day, Grandma would bring home Chinese take-out, usually chop suey.

Dad loved grandma’s homemade dumplings filled with bacon bits.

After Grandpa Len went fishing with his buddies, Grandma would batter and fry the fish for dinner. Aunt Lenore and I loved the crust so much that one night we decided that we were to peel and eat the fish first, saving the delicious crust for dessert. We ate so much fish that we acquired a mountain of crust. Then we had a huge laugh because we were too full to eat it.
